The music on this album is not that of a new band; instead, it has a very natural and mature feel to it from musicians who are playing with their heads and not their libidos.

It is true that the members of Eyes Adrift have played in other bands. Where they came from is not as important as where they are going. Eyes Adrift is Curt Kirkwood, Bud Gaugh, and Krist Novoselic. Chances are you are wondering what to expect from these three long-time musicians, and I’ll tell you: the main influence of this recording is the hallucinatory ramblings and psychedelic guitar frolics of Curt Kirkwood. The music on this album is not that of a new band; instead, it has a very natural and mature feel to it from musicians who are playing with their heads and not their libidos.

The songs on this recording work wonderfully, creating stunning visuals, lush landscapes, and enough edge to never let your forget this is a rock album on top of everything else it may be. One of the most complete and sonic adventures on this record is the song “Telescope.” This song is Curt Kirkwood at his best as he blends his abstract lyrics with his psychadelicsonicfrieddistortions played out on guitar. The highlight of the record is the slow-building “Untried.” As the song ends, we find Kirkwood’s guitar purring forth feedback as he sings in a somber tone, “Sometimes it seems nothing will do/Directionless, so what/Untried and true.”

Ending the record is a 15-minute excursion into the chaotic synergy that swirls and mixes around one’s mind while waiting for the swirls to reveal themselves. The music is created with colors and landscapes in mind, as the lyrics seem to emerge from somewhere else. This is an ambitious work that shows some musicians are not willing to merely rest on what they did in the past.
