The bands Southern boogie — country twang with hard-hitting guitar induced rock ‘n’ roll — had the crowd completely in the zone.

Off Broadway, St. Louis
Festus, Missouri’s Bottle Rockets were in town Saturday delivering a two-hour roots rock revival to a sold out crowd at Off Broadway. The bands Southern boogie — country twang with hard-hitting guitar induced rock ‘n’ roll — had the crowd completely in the zone. The fluidity and skill members Brian Henneman (guitar, vocals), Mark Ortmann (drums), John Horton (guitar), and Keith Voegele (bass), play in sync made it immediately clear why their fans have had such a devotedness for more than 20 years. The 20+ song set included fan favorites such as Radar Gun, Kerosene, Welfare Music, and Trailer Mama.
The Bottle Rockets are touring in support of their self-titled, two disc, bonus track-laden reissue from Bloodshot Records. The epic box set, full of extras, is a reissue of the Bottle Rockets first two albums from 1993-1994: The Bottle Rockets and The Brooklyn Side. The re-mastered editions are two of the best ways to celebrate one of southern rocks’ greatest pioneering bands, and the contribution they have made on their way. | Chris Renteria
