It seems the Chilean fans have a special place in their hearts for Anthrax.
Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated thrash rockers extraordinaire Anthrax are back with a new DVD. Chile on Hell brings the band live from the Teatro Caupolican Theatre in Santiago, Chile. Containing songs that span the band’s entire career, this is an extended set played just for the Chilean fans.
The band has been playing the South American country since 1983, and it seems the Chilean fans have a special place in their hearts for Anthrax. With split-screen scenes and a set list composed of many fan favorites, this is a great release. While there is no interview footage, the live footage is well shot and presented. “Caught in a Mosh,” “I Am the Law,” and a scathing version of AC/DC’s “T.N.T.” rock the screen from the first scenes. This DVD is a treat for all Anthrax fans.
One of the more touching scenes here is a tribute to Ronnie James Dio and “Dimebag” Darrell. With backdrops featuring artist’s renditions of each of the metal legends, the tribute is set to the tune of “In the End.” Rounding out their set with the uber-popular track “I’m the Man” and their best-known song, “Antisocial,” Anthrax put on a scaled-down, high-energy show from start to finish. While there are no liner notes included in the packaging, the video itself is a gem.
With the classic Anthrax lineup—Joey Belladonna on vocals, Scott Ian on guitar, Charlie Benante on drums, Frank Bello on bass, and Jon Donais on guitar—Anthrax is, as ever, sharp and fierce. B | Marc Farr
