If you can’t feel some kind of empathy for the central characters, there’s not much left to the film except a guilt trip for not feeling the way you should.
He’s a one-trick pony and so is the film, and neither really go anywhere.

When she shares the screen with McTeer, Close simply disappears into the woodwork, which may be appropriate for her character but doesn’t give the audience much to appreciate.
