The newsletter round-up from our friends at CBC Radio One - a super awesome place to hear music and information.

From December 20th through the 31st, The World at Six will look back at the big stories of 2010, with conversations between host Alison Smith and a number of CBC national and international correspondents. From the Vancouver Olympics to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and from the G8/G20 summit to the trapped Chilean miners ... you’ll hear the personal insights of the people who covered the news and get a chance to listen again to some of their dramatic reports.

Friday on The Current, guest host Piya Chattopadhay celebrates the holidays by looking at the worst Christmas movies ever made. She’ll be joined by writer Kevin Carr (Fat Guys at the Movies) and Alonso Duralde, author of We Wish You a Movie Christmas. That’s on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., 9:00 in Newfoundland.

Of course, holidays are all about traditions, and As it Happens likes to do its part by sharing a national favourite with CBC listeners. As they do on every Christmas Eve, As it Happens will air Alan Maitland's reading of The Shepherd by Frederick Forsyth. The short story was written as a Christmas tale, and it’s a suspenseful one. As an RAF pilot is flying home for Christmas from Germany in 1957, fog sets in and all radio communication is lost. Tune in to As it Happens for this annual favourite on Friday, December 24th at 6:30 p.m., 7:00 in Newfoundland.

That same night at 9:00 (9:30 NT), Ideas host Paul Kennedy presents "A Stephen Leacock Christmas." Leacock wrote a series of annual Christmas stories and you’ll hear some of them read by Paul Kennedy, accompanied by seasonal music.
