Every track on this album stands on its own merits.

Sweden's Sister Sin have unleashed a killer record—Black Lotus. It is bursting with awesome riffs, vicious vocals, and hooks-galore, and hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, the band have toured with such acts as U.D.O., In This Moment, Otep, and Motörhead.

Fronted by vocalist Liv Jagrell, whose vocal prowess is undeniable, the album is heavy metal at its finest. Loaded with scathing guitars, a bombastic rhythm section, and Jagrell's melodic screeches, this is one hot band. It gives hints to classic metal bands like Judas Priest, KISS, and the rest of the glam rock era. Black Lotus scorches the ears and blazes the senses.

From the opening track, “Food for Worms,” the band gets off to an intense start. Guitarist Jimmy Hiltula is precise, yet dirty in his delivery of powerful riffs. The first single from the album, "Chaos Royale," leaps from the speakers the way hard rock should. Producers Rikard Lofgren and Gustav Ydenius create a dark, edgy atmosphere with no filler. Every track on this album stands on its own merits. Other spotlight tracks include the hard-rocking “Count Me Out” with its violin-bow riff, and the heavy, melodic ballad “The Jinx” which nicely showcases Jagrell's vocals and the song-crafting achieved by the band.

Sister Sin should be on your metal radar. Let's hope for some stateside tour dates from them as well. Bottom line: this band rocks! A | Marc J. Farr
