Pas Chic Chic | Untitled (Semprini Records)

The 12” is essentially two songs with an interlude in between, and is a worthy venture for fans of the genre.

Canadian quartet Pas Chic Chic’s new 12” single sounds like a synth-driven AIR breakdown colored with a lush chorus of vocals reminiscent of electronic krautrock pioneers. The group (featuring former members of Godspeed You! Black Emporer, Set Fire to Flames and Fly Pan Am) pairs sounds of electro-yesteryear with a simple drum kit pulsing forward in a hypnotically steady beat. The disc’s opener, “Allez Vous Faire Influencer,” makes eight minutes fly by as layers of reverb and bass throb and build just enough to keep your foot tapping. The 12” is essentially two songs with an interlude in between, and is a worthy venture for fans of the genre. B | Glen Elkins
