It is nice to have this connection to those who have made their own great history, with our city having played a part in that greatness.

 

The book takes the reader down the Walk in many different ways. Walk of Famers are listed by industry, date of birth, and date of induction. Anyone can be nominated, as long as they fit the criteria for nomination: One must either have been born here, or have spent the formative/creative years here. Also, their creativity has to have had a national impact on our cultural heritage. All celebrities also have their own page, with more intimate information about their careers and connection to the city.

So, who is to be found in these pages? Sports legends like Stan Musial and Jackie Joyner-Kersee are Walk of Famers. Comedienne extraordinaire Phyllis Diller also hails from our little village. Classic actors and actresses such as Betty Grable, John Goodman, and Josephine Baker got their start in St. Louis, and one would be remiss to not include perhaps the most famous St. Louisians: R&B and rock ’n’ roll legend Chuck Berry, who still resides in Missouri, and Ike and Tina Turner, who went on to phenomenal success.

It is nice to have this connection to those who have made their own great history, with our city having played a part in that greatness. This is a must-have for every St. Louisan who holds an interest in our city’s past, present, and future. A fun and entertaining read, one that should make St. Louis swell with pride.
