Snakes & Music | Isabelle (Initial)

Good music is good music, despite its pathetic lyrical abilities.

Anxiously we've been waiting all summer for this. And finally it's within our grasps. What's better than Snakes on a Plane but Snakes and Music! They dance! They have a sweet rattlesnake that does amazing percussion! Done with my lame comparison joke? Good, me too.

"Isabelle" is Snakes & Music's second record. In it they paint a gentle, lazy haze that makes the air feel a little thicker. It conjures up tumbleweeds, strolls, and distant stares. The melodies just float through the seamless album, making it easy to forget your previous thought.

For all the good that the actual music does for the album, the lyrics destroy. They are one-dimensional and the imagery is on a high-school level. Worse yet, is that they often repeat the lyrics to fill the songs. Good God, almighty nonsensical jibber jabba would be better than most of the stuff they say.

The good news is that it's often easy to disregard words and just submerge yourself in the tune. Good music is good music, despite its pathetic lyrical abilities.
