From simple, pure composition to stripped-down, easy lyrics, Balls is a country-roots album for purists.
Elizabeth Cook's new album is very straightforward. From simple, pure composition to stripped-down, easy lyrics, Balls, the fourth album from Cook, is a country-roots album for purists. The majority of the tracks are co-written by Cook herself and reflect the tenacity of a self-made artist and hard-working woman.
Still, I am not drawn into Cook's world. Perhaps I am spoiled by the current blend of pop/rock/country music available today, but while simplicity makes this album what it is, the simplicity of it also makes it more difficult for Cook to stand out among contemporary country voices.
