One song. There is one truly great song on the new CD by the Chicago duo the Like Young. The band consists of singer/drummer Amanda Ziemba and Joe Zimeba (guitar, keyboards, and vocals). The two musicians have an indie-rock sound that shows signs of early new wave influence, especially with some the neat mixes of guitars and keyboards. Both members of the Like Young do a good job on lead vocals and play their instruments well. The only problem is that there is really only one highlight, “Some Closure,” a somber ballad that sounds good even after near-constant repeats. The vocals are solid and the guitar phenomenal, offering melodies that are impossible to resist. The rest of the CD is pretty much just filler. It’s nothing that is really bad, but nothing great, either, and certainly nothing memorable.
