Conquest: No Boundaries

| Print |

There are plenty of catchy songs and great hooks to hold the listener’s attention.

Conquest is a local heavy metal band that was started by singer/guitarist Derrick Brumley back in the mid ’80s and has managed to survive into 2003. After seeing them perform live, it was easy to see why: Brumley is a truly exciting performer who puts a tremendous amount of heart and energy into his shows, and his band is rock solid. Watching Conquest is like watching a group of Midwestern outlaws who win their battle to keep heavy metal alive every time they play.

The CD compliments the live show very well. Songs like “Nightmare” and “Ruin My Life” are impossible to ignore and sound great cranked through a stereo. The guitar sound is a brutal assault and Tim Fleetwood gives a solid performance on drums. There are plenty of catchy songs and great hooks to hold the listener’s attention. The lyrics tend to get political at times, but I’ll leave that part alone; buy the CD for yourself and see what you think.
