 I completely forgot how "edgy"—by Air Supply standards, anyway—some of their songs came off.

 

 

 

 

 

Big drums, tender melodies, and overuse of the word "love"—these are the elements that can be found in the majority of songs in the Air Supply repertoire. The lads from down under have released yet another collection of their soft-rock hits for your stress management needs. That is the charm of Air Supply's music: no matter how crappy your day is going, when you hear Russell Hitchcock or Graham Russell's syrupy vocals mixed with the swelling orchestra behind them, you get the feeling that everything is going to be OK.

The songs contained on the album are some of the group's biggest hits. "Lost In Love," "All Out of Love," and "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" stand out as some of the best cuts on the disc. That said, the other 13 tracks in the collection are just fantastic. I completely forgot how "edgy"—by Air Supply standards, anyway—some of their songs came off. Tracks like "Sweet Dreams" and "Just as I Am" have an impressive, upbeat rock tempo, giving the songs a sassy kick in the pants.

The fact of the matter is as far as "best of" compilations go, most leave something to be desired. The Best of Air Supply: Ones That You Love is crammed full of so many wonderful, heartfelt songs that it made even me go find the one that I love and plant a big fat smooch on him. I wonder how many babies have Russell and Hitchcock to thank for being born. I mean, let's face it: you get the object of your desire back to your pad, turn the lights down low, open up that box of wine, put on this CD and all you have to do is close the deal—it's that good.
